Placon Expands Medical Packaging Production to Meet Growing Demand

January 15, 2024

Madison, WI (Feb. 6, 2024) – Placon, an industry leader in custom medical and pharmaceutical packaging solutions today announced an expansion in production capacity at its medical manufacturing facility in Elkhart, Indiana. The move to expand production comes in the wake of growing demand for Placon’s custom thermoform packaging, lidding solutions (Tyvek, paper and foil) and BargerGard® TPU.

Placon has strategically targeted growth in the medical and healthcare market for years, starting with the acquisitions of Barger and Brookdale Plastics, and more recently with a major building expansion and other capital investments at the Elkhart plant in 2021.

The new added capacity will include an additional Class 8 cleanroom and state-of-the-art equipment to expand production for BargerGard® TPU, Tyvek Lidding, and other in-demand solutions. The investment will allow Placon to increase output, expand product offerings, and improve lead time for delivery.

“The investment in our medical capabilities will allow us to provide a better customer experience for our partner accounts and bring their products to market faster,” said Mike Nielsen, Elkhart Plant General Manager. “The expansion is in line with our medical growth strategy and sets us up well into the future.”

The Elkhart facility, also known as Placon’s “Medical Center of Excellence,” is ISO 13485 certified and dedicated to producing custom plastic packaging for the medical and healthcare industries. This site manufactures custom thermoformed trays, clamshells, lids, and their unique BargerGard® protective packaging made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material.
